General Info

Advent® Syrup is a pediatric antibiotic in a form of dry syrup with a tangy orange flavor, which goal is to treat a wide spectrum of bacterial infections including those which affect urinary tract, respiratory tract, skin and soft tissue (like wound infections and infected animal bites), bones and joints and others.

Advent® Syrup
Active Ingredient

Amoxicillin, Clavulanic Acid.

Description

Advent® Syrup manufacturer is Cipla. Advent® Syrup contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid as key constituents. Amoxicillin is an Aminopenicillin, which has a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity. Clavulanic Acid is used to prevent Amoxicillin’s degradation and to extend its spectrum.

Indications:

- upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media);

- skin and skin structure infections (e.g., boils, abscesses, cellulitis, wound infections, animal bites);

- urinary tract infections (e.g., cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis);

- bone and joint infections (e.g. osteomyelitis);

- other infections (e.g. intra-abdominal sepsis and dental infections).

Advent® Syrup is also indicated for prophylaxis of infections which may be associated with major surgical procedures such as gastrointestinal, pelvic, head and neck, cardiac, renal, joint replacement and biliary tract.

Advent® Syrup will not be effective for viral infections like common cold or flu, or for yeast infection.

MOA (mechanism of action):

Amoxycillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic with in vitro bactericidal activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Staphylococcus spp. (except strains producing penicillinase), Streptococcus spp; Neisseria Gonorrhoeae, Neisseria Meningitidis, Escherichia Coli, Shigella spp., Salmonella spp., Klebsiella spp.

Amoxicillin damages bacterial cell wall by preventing the synthesis of a substance called peptidoglycan, vital for bacteria's survival. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which blocks a beta-lactamase enzyme action produced by some bacteria to hinder the action of Amoxicillin.

Dosage

For the treatment of mild to moderate infections (upper respiratory tract infections, e.g. recurrent tonsillitis, lower respiratory tract infections and skin and soft tissue infections): 25 mg of dry syrup mix with 3,6 mg of sterile water per kg of body weight within 24 hours.

For the treatment of severe infections (upper respiratory tract infections, e.g. otitis media, sinusitis; lower respiratory tract infections, e.g. bronchopneumonia and urinary tract infections): 45 mg of dry syrup mix with 6,4 mg of sterile water per kg of body weight within 24 hours.

Advent® Syrup is not for use in children under 2 years of age.

Note, that patients with hepatic impairment, the dose should be adjusted according to the degree of impairment.

Preparation

1. First, shake the bottle to loosen the powder and mix it with a sterile water (given with the pack) to two-thirds of the fill mark on the bottle.

2. Remove the cap, shake the bottle until all the powder is suspended.

3. Add more water until the level of the fill line is attained, and shake again.

4. When first reconstituted, allow to stand for 5 minutes to ensure full dispersion.

5. After reconstitution, keep the syrup in the refrigerator when not in use.

6. Advent® Syrup must be used within 7 days after reconstitution.

Missing a dose

If you miss a dose you should take it as soon as you remember about your missing. If it is the time for the next dose you should continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose of Advent® Syrup to compensate the missed dose.

Overdose

If an overdose occurs and you are not feeling well, stop taking the medication immediately. You should seek emergency medical attention or contact your healthcare provider immediately.

Storage

Store at a cool temperature between 15 and 20 degrees C (59 and 68 degrees F) and away from excess moisture and heat. Keep it tightly closed. Throw away any unused medicine in 5 days after reconstitution. Keep out of the reach of children.
